I attended the Travelzoo fifth birthday party last night. An amazing success story - 1.8 million UK subscribers, 4 million across Europe in just five years. It's a company that doesn't sell anything but obsessively checks the accuracy of the information it publishes and gets the trust of that level of subscribers as a result. Hugely impressive growth.
Speaking at an event before the party was the affable Erik Qualman, the author of Socialnomics and apparently heavily involved in the early days of Travelzoo.
He gave an impressive video update on social media trends and gave a deceptively simple comment which has become my social media quote of the month
"We no longer search for news.
It finds us.
We will no longer search for products and services
They will find us via social media"
