Frommer's 18 January 2010

Frommer's® is awarding the winner of its first international Cover Photo Contest the photo credit of a lifetime-placement of the winning photo on the cover of a forthcoming travel guide-and £3,000*. Four second-place winners will receive a prize pack containing three Frommer's Day by Day travel guides and a selection of Frommer's Lug travel accessories, worth more than £180**.

From January 6th through March 31st, contestants can visit http://www.frommers.com/go/photocontest/ to enter the contest and upload their best travel photos. Frommer's travel experts Rob Flynn, Ensley Eikenburg, Jason Clampet and David Lytle, along with Wiley's photography and digital imaging publisher Barry Pruett and renowned US photographer and author Rick Sammon make up a panel of judges that will announce the winner on April 14th.

The Cover Photo Contest celebrates Frommer's new full-colour editions which launched in September. Debut titles available now include London, Paris, New York City, Italy, Costa Rica, Alaska, and Hawaii. Nine more full-colour guides will be available in 2010. The new guides feature:

§ Hundreds of full colour photos, specifically selected to highlight what's special about each destination
§ New interior layout and design to make information more accessible and easy to browse through
§ More feature boxes with Frommer's expert tips, recommended itineraries, online resources, side trips, cultural highlights, events, and more
§ Authors who are local experts whose outspoken opinions reveal what's worth travellers' time-and what's not
§ Insightful new icons point out favourite moments, great finds and values, child-friendly and overrated attractions
§ Detailed full-colour maps that are larger and easier to read
§ Chapter tabs which make it simple to find what you're looking for
§ Durable coated paper that withstands lots of browsing and flipping
§ In depth and up to date information on attractions and places of interest

"I know we have an opinionated and curious audience in our online community," said Frommers.com editorial director David Lytle. "They also have keen eyes when it comes to photographing their journeys as we have seen in their own photo galleries. We really wanted to give them the opportunity to showcase their own viewpoint by finding the best image out there to be featured on the cover of a Frommer's Travel Guide. We're expecting some fierce competition."
