The Manchester Central Caravan and Motorhome Show 2011, Manchester

Fed up with the Big Freeze? Why not start planning your next exciting outdoor adventure at The Manchester Central Caravan & Motorhome Show 2010, the industry's first major exhibition of the year from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 January. The event promises something for everyone, from experienced caravanners looking for this season's must-have accessory to the many who have recently discovered - or in some cases rediscovered - the joys of touring.

The event helps visitors to find out what the leading manufacturers have on offer, while offering a range of activities and attractions on site to break up the day and take a well-earned break.

Top manufacturers will be showing off their 2010 models. One of the UK's market leaders, Bailey of Bristol has recently announced that 2009 was its best ever year for sales with more than 9,500 orders, 20% more than 2008. The launch of its new Pegasus range was a key part of its success, and will be at the show for you to see. (Hall 1, Stand 127) The Swift Group will also be displaying The Swift Voyager and Bessacarr E600 series of caravans which have benefitted from a range of improvements for 2010 as well as its value for money range Sprite which has three new models this year, with the entire range incorporating many of the design and build qualities of the more expensive Swift brands. (Hall 1, Stand 128, 129, 142, 145)

Autocruise motorhomes, also part of the Swift Group, will be displaying seven new van conversions for 2010. The range now offers the market a wider range of luxury van conversions. New models include a medium wheel base product known as Jazz, which will swing into life at the show. (Hall 1, Stand 132)

Timberland Motorhomes will be launching its Atlantis vehicle at the event, a new conversion based on is existing Fiat Ducato Destiny range. Its popular Endeavour range based on the Renault Master, will also be on display. The North Lincolnshire-based business has recently been accredited with an Investors in People Award, reflecting its strategy of providing high levels of customer service by employing talented and motivated people. (Hall 1, Stand 122)

Other leading manufacturers and dealers with a presence at the event include Coachman, Frankia Motorhomes, Campbell Caravans, Glossop Caravans, Lunar, Rapido, Isabella Awnings.

The variety of vehicles is matched by the options available when it comes to where to stay once you've decided to take to the road. Touring holidays can offer unrivalled freedom and choice, in the UK and overseas. Both markets are addressed at the show. Representatives from Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome magazines will be on hand to offer expert advice and suggestions on which sites can fit your exact needs. Their Caravansitefinder.co.uk website can help you find that perfect spot, whether you want a family friendly site near a beach or a quiet location suitable as a base for a variety of walks. (Linkway between Hall 1 & 2)

For the more adventurous, The Camping and Caravanning Club will be showcasing its Worldwide Escapes, a selection of individual and escorted fly-drive motorhome holidays to destinations such as Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. If 2010 is the year for your trip of a lifetime, this could be the place to start making it happen.

Families visiting the event will be pleased to know that this year's Manchester show features a KidZone, run by The Camping and Caravanning Club and its partner Gullivers. The pair ran a successful KidZone at International Caravan and Motorhome 2009 at the NEC in October, and are jointly launching a new environment-and-family friendly site in Milton Keynes this year. KidZone activities include face painting, balloon modelling and a fun mini-gym. (Hall 1, Stand 130)

Television programmes highlighting the wildlife and landscapes of the British Isles are popular, and no other holiday experiences can get you as close to nature as caravanning. Fans of BBC2's award-winning "COAST" will have the chance to see one of its presenters speak in Manchester. Miranda Krestovnikoff, whose speciality is natural history, will share some behind the scenes anecdotes and pictures, giving a firsthand account of how "COAST" is made and filmed and some of the secrets behind its success.

Cooking in a caravan requires different skills to cooking in a kitchen. A special guest chef will demonstrate ‘Recipes for the road' in the Cookery Theatre, showing how easy it is to become a masterchef using a single stove or barbeque. A basic kitchen doesn't have to result in a basic menu. (Hall 1, Stand 114)

And with so many campsites attached to farms, it is fitting that there will be a farmers market at the show which is located in the Upper Foyer by Hall 2. Stock up on locally produced cheeses, jams, chutneys, cakes and biscuits or see what is on offer at Weatheroak Ostrich Farm's stall.

The Caravan and Motorhome Show takes place from the 21 to 24 January at Manchester Central (formerly). Advance tickets can be booked up to 4pm on 20 January; day tickets cost £6, a family ticket for the Saturday or Sunday costs £9 and a half-day tickets - valid from 2pm to closing are just £4. Under 16s are free, while on the door day tickets cost £8.
