The Eye For Travel European Distribution conference was packed and buzzing yesterday. Five take-outs and a summary of my speech is below

It's the Eye For Travel Conference next month. I'll be speaking on a panel on 10th May about the pros and cons of outsourcing PR and social media. I'm representing the agency side and with delicious irony the other speakers on the panel have asked me to talk about the cons of outsourcing. Watch this space and I'll tell you how I get on.

bgb welcomes a third member to its Travel Consultant Network this month. The bgb Travel Consultant Network has been set up to provide clients with individual senior staff. and current members Cathy Brennan and Rob Bates are now joined by Russell Ison.

We attended CIMTIG's inaugural Travel Vision event yesterday with speakers from the British Travel Awards (who survey 15,000 consumers each year) and GfK Ascent (official collators of travel industry stats collating more than 19 million consumer choices).

Debbie Hindle and I will be at ITB this year. We'll be blogging and tweeting (@bgbcomms) from the show so watch this space for news and views.

bgb's Travel Consultants Network service has been boosted by the appointment of a third consultant. Rob Bates has signed up to become a member of the travel specialist network after setting up his own PR business. Rob has spent nine years in travel communications, following a career in TV. He has in-house experience at Air New Zealand and Icelandair as well as agency experience working on clients such as Tourism Australia, the Spanish Tourist Office and individual members of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Thinking the unthinkable is essential if you're considering crisis communications, but today's news about the spread of swine influenza has to make us think the unthinkable very fast. 

In the past few months I've seen two travel companies experience the impact of critical discussions about their business online. In both instances the discussion started in the UK and was very quickly being commented on across the world.
