New Curriculum-Linked Field Studies Courses For Schools & Colleges
Teachers looking to fulfill exam boards' requirements of geography fieldwork studies, or looking to carry out investigations in accordance with "How Science Works Criteria" can now consider a new collection of fieldwork studies published by Kingswood Educational Activity Centres.
Kingswood's latest environmental field studies courses have been completely reviewed to meet the specifications of new exam board requirements for GCSE, AS, A2 and Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers students. The new modules on offer include more than twenty thematic studies each written to match the specific requirements of five of the most widely used examining boards - AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC and SQA.
Subjects as diverse as woodland and river ecology, urban centre regeneration, urban settlements, population change, coastal environments, or sand dune succession through to field study research techniques can be selected from the thorough new range available at one of Kingswood's four specialist environmental study centres in North Norfolk, North Wales, Northumberland and the Isle of Wight.
Jonathan Barber, director of educational programmes for Kingswood said: "our new modules are designed to give teachers and pupils the most academically beneficial field studies experience available and to create courses that take every advantage of the local environment. We're completely committed to the government's "learning outside the classroom" manifesto and in providing educationally rich learning opportunities in the UK and overseas."
Schools visiting a Kingswood field study centre are offered a fully flexible daily timetable to select the modules most appropriate for their students. All modules include follow-up sessions in the well-equipped ICT labs where students can prepare comprehensive reports about their fieldwork illustrated with photographs, graphs and charts to visualise and interpret some of the more difficult research concepts they encounter.
Kingswood operates a total of ten educational activity centres across the UK and Northern France and belongs to the Education Travel Group which welcomes a quarter of a million children every year on a huge range of educationally rich school tours throughout the world.
Field study groups often prefer to maximise the number of modules they study and a week can be filled with fieldwork, classroom sessions and ICT lab work. But groups can also choose to mix these with a selection of more than forty exhilarating and challenging team building or adventure activities ranging from climbing and caving, to zipwire and archery.
Each Kingswood Centre has an environmental specialist who has an in-depth knowledge of all study areas who teachers can talk to in advance of their trip. Kingswood always welcomes appointments for any teacher wanting to carry out a site inspection and to see a centre in action. There's also a friendly and professional schools' team at the end of a telephone or at Kingswood online.
