Frommer's 3 December 2008
Frommer's Tuscany & Umbria with Your Family has won Best Travel Guide 2008 at the Italian State Tourist Board Travel Writing Awards. The family title overcame strong competition to take the top prize in a Gala Dinner held at the In and Out Club in St James Square, London.
The winning Frommer's title written by authors Donald Strachan and Stephen Keeling was singled out for the quality of its research, writing and opening up a new area in Italian tourism.
Frommer's were presented with the top award by ITV news presenter Mary Nightingale and Valerio Scoyni, Director Italian State Tourist Board.
The event was attended by the daughter and widow of legendary travel writer, Eric Newby CBE, author of some of the best books in the canon of English travel writing, notably A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush and Love and War in the Apennines.
Last year Frommer's won the Runner-up prize at the annual awards for Northern Italy with Your Family. The Runner-up this year was Time Out.
The Frommer's With Your Family collection are written by British authors and are the UK's leading destination-specific family guides. Priced at £12.99, the guides present in-depth and up to date information on the best family-friendly accommodation, dining, attractions and events.
