Frommer's 9 February 2009
Forced to compromise on the length of your city break this year? Frommer's has launched two new titles in the growing Frommer's Day by Day series, giving smart, outspoken and up-to-date advice for time-poor travellers wanting to get the most out of a city break. The introduction of Moscow Day by Day and Berlin Day by Day expands the collection to take in some of the world's top, exciting city break destinations for 2009. Visit Moscow this Spring as the city comes alive with Mardis Gras, Russian Fashion Week and the exciting third Moscow Biennale of contemporary art. 2009 is also the year to explore Berlin as the city celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
· Check out the guides' one, two or three-day itineraries leading you around the most important and unmissable places of interest on a timetable that suits. Visit Moscow's most famous landmarks around Red Square in one day but make sure you leave those Jimmy Choo's at home as the author advises
· The series has a wide range of themed itineraries organised according to family-friendly, gastronomy, architecture and art as well as top recommendations for shopping, outdoor pursuits, nightlife, culture and accommodation. Whether you want to experience the best views or beers in Berlin or discover the best places to relive the Cold War in Moscow, there is something to suit every interest, schedule and taste
· Budget travellers can make use of the guides' handy moneysaving tips on dining, shopping, accommodation and attractions - for instance visit Berlin's major museums and galleries on a Thursday evening when doors open for free and get more for your euro by staying in edgier districts such as Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. Another tip by the Moscow author includes staying at the Hotel Belgrade in Moscow which offers the same spectacular Stalinist skyscraper views as the five-star Golden Ring Hotel located opposite at half the price
· Discover some of each city's quirky, hidden gems - for example take advice from the Moscow author's favourite moments and enjoy a coffee at Nineteenth Century Café Pushkin featuring the most ornate bathrooms in the city. The Berlin author recommends getting behind the wheel of a Trabi, the cult GDR car, as it is the coolest way of discovering Berlin beyond the well-trodden tourist track
· The guides also feature hundreds of images, a translation guide, chapter on advice and preparation before travel and a foldout full-sized map
The books are prices at £7.99. To purchase, visit your local bookshop.
