Chalet Tianes (www.hotel-tianes.com/en) is a new four-star hotel that opens in Castelrotto/Kastelruth, just 30 minutes’ drive northeast of Bolzano, on 3 December. Owned and run by the Piccolruaz family, the 30-room hotel is set in the midst of the Sciliar mountain, close to Alpe di Siusi with its various outdoor activity opportunities. The “Dolomiti Superski” and “Sella Ronda” ski circuits are both within 8km of the hotel, whilst the area is also ideal for snow shoe-hiking, winter trekking and tobogganing. The Val Gardena and Alpe di Siusi ski centres and a cross-country ski centre are all easily accessible.
Rooms are large – between 31 m² and 52 m² - with chargeable WiFi access and, as is common in South Tyrol, the hotel boasts a large beauty farm where guests can choose between a Turkish steam bath, Finnish block sauna and traditional bio sauna. There are also heated indoor and outdoor pools and – for real sauna devotees - a sauna hut in the garden that is ultra-hot.
Hotel Tianes’ impressive restaurant overlooks the surrounding Dolomiti mountain range and is presided over by Patrick Piccolruaz, the owner’s eldest son. Guests enjoy daily four-course meals and, twice a week, a special five-course dinner. There’s a 22-page wine menu and also a separate bar with hip, more contemporary décor. And in the summer months the buffet breakfast of local produce – complete with juice bar – is served on the sun-kissed terrace.
In the summer the Alpe di Siusi offers everything from horse riding on the Sciliar plateau to hiking, mountain biking and swimming in the nearby Völser Weiher lake. Located in the Sciliar Natural Park, the lake is fed by a mountain water spring and melting snow, leaving the water absurdly pure. In the summer its water reaches temperatures of 24°C and there’s also a second lake at higher altitude, which offers good fishing. The hotel also has easy access to the 18-hole Castelrotto-Alpe di Siusi golf course.
Prices start from 81.50 euros per person per night on a half-board basis with complimentary afternoon coffee and cakes, based on a one-week stay.

For South Tyrol we wanted to learn more about the potential target market from the UK. We therefore undertook both quantitative and qualitative research projects with one of our research partners.
