Destinology reports 33% increase in departures for first quarter
28% increase in bookings in January for travel in February

Luxury tour operator Destinology continues to defy the credit crunch, this week reporting strong trading figures for its first quarter. Between 1 November ‘08 - 31 January ‘09, departures booked through Destinology increased 33% compared to the same period the year before, with January bookings for February travel also up 28% year on year.

In further signals that consumers are prepared to continue to spend on holidays, Destinology's average booking value also increased 3% on the first quarter last year. The booking pattern has changed in profile however, with the higher number of bookings taken in the first quarter for travel within a month, rather than the usual pattern of high January bookings for peak travel periods further ahead, such as summer and Christmas.

Dominic Speakman, founder and CEO of Destinology comments, "These great first quarter sales figures signal a very strong start to the year for Destinology and show that our customers are happy to keep spending on valued holiday time. With the confidence shown in the desire to travel now, outside of the main holiday periods, we are also confident in recording high value bookings in the months to come, as key travel periods for summer holiday and Christmas draw closer".

Dominic continued, "Prudent planning for the year ahead to keep our cost base in line with 2008, combined with the significant increase in departures, means 2009 is set to be even more profitable than 2008, already a record breaking year for Destinology".

Notes to editors: Destinology was founded in 2003 by Dominic Speakman after he spotted a gap in the market for tailormade, luxury, long haul holidays, marketed to consumers online, but with a dedicated team providing the best in personal service. Now firmly established as a leader in the UK travel industry, Destinology turned over £24 million in 2008 and today employs over 80 staff in its UK office in Bolton and four in its first overseas office, set up in Saddlebrook, New Jersey, in May 2008. Awards include being named 14th in the ‘Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For' 2007 list and Dominic being named one of the most successful and ambitious entrepreneurs in the ‘Young Guns for 2007' awards.
