Caribbean Tourism Organisation 19 May 2010
On the evening of 18 May the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) UK chapter hosted a two-hour reception of drinks and Caribbean-themed canapés for over 110 members of its UK chapter and the British media. Organised to facilitate networking between the chapter members and the UK travel, lifestyle and trade press, the CTO’s seventh annual “Meet the Media” evening took place between 18.30 and 20.30 in the centrally located London nightclub 24 London, between Carnaby Street and Soho.
Five CTO members sponsored the event supplying a montage of Caribbean-themed footage of the venue’s projection walls, including Elite Island Resorts; Harlequin Hotels and Resorts; the Jamaica Tourist Board; the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Virgin Atlantic Airlines.
The chapter members attending comprised three airlines; 10 hotels; 16 national tourist offices and three tour operators.
Highlights of the evening included the attendance of Caribbean icons Alex Pascall OBE, the Grenadian-born playwright, songwriter and broadcaster, and Levi Roots, London’s Jamaican-born reggae musician, chef, entrepreneur, as well as a prize draw by the CTO’s Carol Hay. The prizes ranged from Caribbean rum and chocolates to a pair of return Club World tickets, kindly offered by British Airways, to any Caribbean destination in the BA network, and won by The Good Holiday Guide’s Vikki Moody.
Ms. Hay, the CTO’s director of marketing for the UK and Europe, said, “We’re delighted to have hosted such an incredibly successful evening with lots of positive feedback from both members and the media. The informal nature of our ‘meet the media’ events is proving increasingly popular and provides a great opportunity for members to build and expand contacts with the media. I’d like to thank everyone so much for attending and look forward to our ‘Host and Rewards the Media’ evening this autumn.”
