Yesterday afternoon, we hosted a bgb ski client afternoon tea - inviting ski media to meet and catch up with our clients from the ski world as the industry starts to focus on the 2010/2011 season. We had a fantastic event and our clients who attended included CK Verbier, The Oxford Ski Company, W&O Ski Dream, Mad Dog Ski, South Tyrol, Sweden, Rocket Ski, SeaFrance and we were also be joined by Betony and Vanessa from the Ski Club of Great Britain. Journalists from The Times, Welove2Ski.com, Tatler, Sunday Times, Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and Ski and Board joined us.
It was a very informal get together - with the most indulgent Pop Cakes and Maison Blanc cup cakes for all! It was very useful to have everyone in one room and the ski writers had a good chance to chat to everyone and hopefully have some fuel for the coming season.
Whilst there is no doubt it will be a tough season with late booking staying with us, the VAT rise looming, spending cuts and the increase in capital gains tax sure to have an impact, having talked to most of our clients, the 2010/2011 season isn't looking too bad so far.
For example CK Verbier has mentioned that bookings for the season are already strong - with many repeat bookings. Interestingly, the bigger chalets are selling first. The Oxford Ski Company mentioned that the weeks clients have booked early are not necessarily the typically popular weeks and Mad Dog Ski confirmed that ski weekends are continuing to grow in popularity. This is now firmly in the diary as an annual event.
